Memorial
I'd like to honor my father on this particular memorial day.
It has been over a year since alarmed that he died. And over two years since the event of his death.
George Wheeler seldom spoke of his war time experience, I do not think that he wished to be remembered for that. He was always a gentle and reticent man, with strong opinions that he kept to himself.
I have not seen nor spoken with him since 1986. At that time he wrote that I was no longer welcome in his home.
In 2000, I did gather the courage to write and he told me that he did not wish to renew any relations with me.
Adoptive parents.
They buy you from an agency and then say begone, when you out live your uses.
He used me to gather inheritance from his wealthy relatives. He feathered the nest mightily, for his own retirement. By parading little promises around. Then he cut me loose. I am Lear's daughter, Cordelia.
The poor man knew it too. My sister is a snake. One of god's innocents, she does not know her own venom. I hope she learns what he died for. I think it was her own wish to do good that killed him.
she flew him fro a hospital in Tennessee to a hospital in Oregon. He died the next day. And never told me.

Life In Exile
My sister said she doesn't answer my e-mail because she spends so much
time at work in front of a computer.
Its a funny world where you can't waste time at work by doing personal
correspondence! maybe that kind of thinking is the reason no place
that I've ever worked wanted me near a computer. I started applying
for graphics jobs back in the eighties when i worked for GTE publishing.
They print the phone books for the southeast US Ohio and the Nynex=New
York books. It was the dawn of the whole computer thing and The company
bought a system that allowed you to do graphics for those little yellow
page ads. While I worked there I watched the whole Art Department
change from people that drew stuff to people that sat in front of
a terminal. I wanted in because I could have gotten in at the ground
floor of a major publishing revolution. I stead I spent the year running
the little ads through a wax machine so that they could paste them
up in the traditional manner. Some parts of the system took longer
to catch up. After I got passed over for a few openings I dropped
out to work for The local Rennaisance Festival. I'd have to get up
at sunrise on Saturdays and ride the bus for two hours. In costume.
The bus stopped at the county Jail.
At the festival I sold Bamboo flutes for a man who made them. Since
I was a paid Performer, I also marched in the parades, and tootled
little jigs and reels for hat money. Mostly I flirted with attractive
young women. (it's part of the job.)
That was fun. But ...I didn't feel like traveling around the country
at the time so that left a whole year to fill up between festivals.
I worked as a file clerk for various temp agencies. All the while
I watched Other people struggling with their Macs and PCs envious,
but physically active. Can you Imagine how much paperwork there is
for the Insurance claims department at a major drugstore chain? I
used a fork lift to take down pallets, then sorted through the alpha
numerically stacked boxes looking for a single sheet of paper, which
i would then copy and take back to the office where no one would speak
to me because i was a temp. Most of the time there was just me in
a warehouse with a million documents.
For fun I would hang around Downtown St Pete where the bars and banks
are. Friday afternoons if i wasn't working i could easily pick up
thirty bucks with a few Bach and O'Carolan tunes. One day A guy stopped

quite the same. I felt lost telling kids about Anansi and trying to
fake a Jamaican accent.
I dabbled in college but my heart was no longer in my work. then I
took some interest in a young lady who had been working at the museum
since i started. she had taken off for about a year and then returned
after her fiance/ business partner left her in charge of a sign painting
business. (she had trained me to Typeset on a GSP vinyl sign cutter,
so during her absence, I made the signage for exhibits and what not.)
She was in charge of special events and she considered me responsible
so, I would stay over at the Museum with her when we had a sleep-over
for children. We also did little workshops where kids and families
could make masks or learn about fossils by making a plaster-cast of
a shell or something. We never dated, but we did talk seriously about
life and stuff. One day she came to me, very upset, wanting to know
what I did with the money from the folklore project. Apparently there
was a budget I was never told about. I always provided my own musical
instruments and props for the show. Then they hired a new story teller
who began spending money on educational stuff like silly string.
Then we were told that My friend had been in an accident. We were
given a gag order not to speak of it. Then were were told that she
had been attacked and left for dead at her apartment. She never regained
the ability to speak due to extensive brain damage. I was terminated
soon after. The reasons differed. Some people were told that I sold
Drugs at the museum. (False) that i showed up late for work, (True)
Other people seemed to realize that I had been assaulted by the Education
Director who was in charge of The Folktales budget.
No one said much to me after I left.
I only saw my friend once after she came out of her coma. Her parents
hovered around her protectively, and she looked like some one who
had been sewn back together. I know she couldn't talk, l but there
was something in her eyes, that I understood. We both cried. I lost
faith in the human race on that day.
She still owes me a book. I loaned it to her about a month before
her assault.The book was "Song of the Forest" by Colin McKay

U.S. Air Strike in Iraq Said to Kill 40
Military officials in Washington refused to address the question of whether anyone from a wedding party was among the people killed.
Associated Press Television News footage from the area near the Syrian border showed a truck containing bloodied bodies, many wrapped in blankets, piled one atop the other. Several were children, one of whom was decapitated. The body of a girl who appeared to be less than 5 years of age lay in a white sheet, her legs riddled with wounds and her dress soaked in blood.
To be fair, The Us claims that they were attacking a safe house for foregn terrorists, coming in through Syria we presume.

Cheaper that way
Well, we modified the casting session to include no casting, and reduced or studio fee to reflect the use of materials. I worked on a pierced disk that will become part of a ring. The customer wants it to have the word God with a line through it to say 'no god,' or 'god free zone,' I engraved another version if the lame logo in cast the pierced one ends up to flimsy. It was a relief to have no pressure. We usually have something in the burnout kiln which needs to be cast at the end of the night so the most intense work is done just before we leave and the security guard is waiting on us. We probably need to break up the session int two night / dual phase workshops. Most cast work is subject to the usual treatments of precious metal objects. Wax carving and Fabrication, both require special materials and tools, and Casting itself is a proces that requires a great deal of attention. No one should do it alone. Like ceramic work and glass, ther is a high temperature oven and a multiple of persons using the process simultaneously.

Saving face
What's a few more words when you've thrown so much to the fire?
May has been the month of medicine. Masha had basal cell removed and then plastic surgery to Correct it before, she worried about the MOHS procedure, but the Dr. took so little skin, it might have healed on it;s own, The plastic procedure left her with some twenty stitches, and a swollen nose. Denny mean while Is healing from a bad out break of Jungle rot. Some fungus gnawed away part of his toe while he wasn't looking. We went to see Sylvia and Tracy, It was Tracie's birthday last week and Sylvia is leaving soon for Maine. She has been wintering here these past few years to be with Tracy and her Grand daughter, Gabby. At three, Gabrielle is quite a hand full she can speak, but sometimes she is shy. She was very quick to tell Poppa, Denny that he was bad...(Denny pretended to eat her bear.) We went out to Leverocks on the beach. And had a nice time, Omar and Tracy (and Sylvia) have done a wonderful job raising a confident three year old.

Wrongful death suit.
It looks like the jury took about an hour and a half to decide in favor of the City Of St. Petersburg, in the lawsuit filed by the family of TyRon Lewis. Lewis was shot by a police officer, Jim Knight, when he refused to roll down the window of his car in 1996 (the car did turn out to be stolen.) According to reports. Lewis also drove the car into officer Knight, and did have an outstanding warrant against him.
It looks as though there will be a scholarship set up for the mans son Tyron Lewis II.
Local NAACP president Darryl Rouson is continuing to ask for peace in the community after a riot Wednesday night. in which about a dozen people were arrested.

We have violence in the news again, After lawyers representing the family of police shooting victim, Tyron Lewis, wrapped up their case, a crowd gathered, threw rocks at cars and businesses on 34th street and fired shots at helicopters. According to SFGate:
About 100 police were sent to break up an unruly crowd that had gathered in the same neighborhood where riots broke out eight years ago after a black motorist who was killed by a police officer.
There has also been a series of protests staged at a downtown shopping district, protesting racial profiling on the part of the BayWalk proper owners.
STEVEN ISBITTS of the Tampa Tribune Has this to say:
Some in the community accuse the Uhurus of sparking Wednesday's violence, but most said the destruction was a result of poverty.
``Part of the Uhurus message makes sense, [and] peaceful and loud protesting is the only way to go to make a difference,'' said Darryl Walls, 41, a neighborhood resident with four children.
``I don't think their members caused this, but at least they are here speaking out.''
Omali Yeshitela, the Uhuru founder, said city officials are deluding themselves if they think a handful of agitators are responsible for Wednesday night's destruction.
Police and witnesses estimated up to 150 people were part of the violent crowd.
The St Petersburg Times quoted Mayor Rick Baker, saying;
"We are going to protect our community," Baker said. "We are going to be committed to making sure our police department treats people with respect in the community. But they are going to arrest people if they commit acts of criminal violence."
Gov. Jeb Bush phoned Baker to offer his support. "He has it under control," Bush said, describing Baker as "a person who has been reaching out consistently toward all segments of the city."
Baker has of course been reaching out to develop land. Mid town Is some of the best real estate in the city and it is populated by some of the poorest people in the county.

Many counties have highly inaccurate voter lists
Just a thread to check.... Along with the controversy about Voting Machines. This is one important debate. Let's talk about election reform instead of patriotism.
I thought, when I started this blog, that I would write true stories that people might find entertaining or wonderful. I have no idea what I have wrought. I still don't know the difference between fiction and truth. "write about what you know was the constant commandment in college writing. If I were Zen Buddhist, I couldn't claim any knowledge....Other than my limited scope of Buddha knowledge. Isn't Islam the same... Or the different Christian Religions?

Dangerous out there
I know that there are people who are very pissed off at the current administration. To my knowledge the Democratic party is not a criminal organization. But there are documents on the internet that suggest that it is. I hate to think that Republicans would espouse such overt slander. but then I've noticed that slander is a general bussiness practice. Nothing wrong with it. Lying is just fine. [smileyface] let's make war on Americans. There has been widespread criticism from US politicians that once the Pentagon knew the scale of the abuse - and in particular that it was depicted in graphic photos which would be broadcast - it did not do more to inform Congressional committees.I understand that there is a need for damage control and that our troops may suffer similar degradations if captured, given the impact the photo's have had world wide. I do not believe that we citizens should tolerate this kind of secrecy. We are also under attack from our own government for sPeaking out. Our Government has Privatized the military operations which could be criticized. No one wishes to account for their actions. The War Machine is out of control.

Well my old Smith Melobar Slide guitar works fine. I had it repaired. The Stratocaster i bought in the late Eighties. does fine, with one exception. the bridge pick-up selector is gimped. I must clean it. the Washburn that I bought from Ceci's brother Miguel plays well. but the 'G" string always breaks and slips. I think the problem lies in the nut. Between breaks though it sound great. I've just become reluctant to re-string it. The Fender champion sound great, but i still haven't hooked it up to my old leslie system. If we were to really understand the conscious collective behavior of mankind, we would have to observe a wide vaiety of opinions as they occurred simultaeously across the world, or within an isolated population. We know that people have had to form groups in order to survive. the nuclear familly is the smallest such group. We also know that other animals, like primates which are similar to us, wolves which are also mammals but differ in important ways, and fish and insects which are extremely dissimilar, all for groups for survival.
We should also qualify material described as Collective Unconscious. If under discussion, such material qualifies as conscious. Similarities between the Myths of different cultures and the Dreams of different individuals suggest the existence of a collective unconscious, but such accounts, and their discussion must be considered as conscious behavior.

"Isolation: According to Biderman, the POW was removed from his group and kept by himself. My father was placed in a darkened and quiet room by himself in a special part of the hospital.
Monopolization of perception: Biderman was here making reference to a process of cutting off stimulation from the environment. POWs were kept in physical isolation with restricted movement, monotonous food and darkness. My father was placed in a condition of partial sensory deprivation which also results in markedly reduced perception of surroundings and a focusing of attention upon the internal processes of thinking and body sensations.
Induced debilitation or exhaustion: Illness was induced in the POW by procedures designed to produce exhaustion, such as prolonged interrogation or forcing him to write down all his thoughts. My father was made ill with shock treatments, drugs and sleep. In addition, my father and other Cameron patients were told to fill notebooks with their thoughts as they listened to voices. The patients were forced to listen to the recorded messages sixteen hours a day ? loud voices, soft, male, female, multiples of voices pressuring patients who had been rendered confused and defenceless.
Threats were another element of the brainwashing process. POWs were exposed to all kinds of threats to themselves or their families. My father faced the threat of endless isolation with the possibility of being cut off from his family forever.
Occasional indulgences or favours were offered to soften up the POWs. These might include special foods or exercise. My father was permitted rare telephone calls to our family or an occasional bath.
Demonstrating "omnipotence" and "omniscience": the captors had complete control over the fate of the POWs; they had complete knowledge of their activities. My father waited anxiously for Cameron, since he had rendered the patients so totally dependent upon him. Cameron and his associates also demonstrated their complete control by having nurses question patients every two hours about what they were hearing on the psychic driving tapes.
Degradation reinforced the helplessness of the POWs: they were not permitted to attend to personal hygiene, they were not allowed privacy, and they were subjected to insults and taunts. My father, like other Cameron patients, was made incontinent in bladder and bowel. At times he was fed through a tube. The patients endured insults through the psychic driving messages ("You're a bad mother"). Doctors and nurses entered their rooms at will; and my father's questions of them were ignored: "What do you want?" he would ask in vain. Powerlessness was magnified by this complete disregard for human dignity.
Enforcing trivial demands: POWs were forced to obey detailed rules that governed even the simplest part of their days. My father and the other patients were forced to remain in their cubicles, go to the toilet on demand, eat when told to, and obey Cameron's instructions without question.

I'd like to thank Ted Koppel for reading the names of "The Fallen," and also thank ABC for finding a way to air the reading. I never knew any of those people but I am saddened by their death. It did not sound like a political diatribe against war. I also remember that those men and women are there to fight against 'War.' We entered the situation trying to tople Hussein, But we are now defending against Iraqui who want us to leave. It is difficult to see the difference between the two kinds of resistance. I hope that people can find it in themselves to forgive the stupid soldiers who tortured prisoners. Milgrams prison experiment seems to show that the situation influences the behavior of both prisoners and guards. depraved behavior is symptomatic in an insane situation.
