Strange things happen in a metal studio. Like ceramics gold/silvercasting is full of unpredictable elements. However one tries to control it, the process is more like cooking than other metal work. We actually do work with ceramic media to invest the wax models, we bake that investment and then melt metal andd throw it into the empty space where the way used to be. Highly professional casting is done with super controled digital kilns and even the centrifuge is controled. nonethe less some of the finest art in the world was made by fussy individuals standing over smoldering red hot ovens. The art center is a lucky encounter for me. I had learned about precious metal casting over the past ten years, but done very little but carve wax and polish finished work. having some control over the whole process is exhillerating. similarly the art center has a core group of dedicated casters. We want to offer the possibility to any one interested.

DEAR GOVERNMENT
As a constituent of yours, I am very concerned about the almost daily revelations about the validity of the justification used to launch America's attack on Iraq. I understand that two pieces of legislation are now introduced in the House, either of which will launch meaningful investigations. Please add your name to a growing list of legislators, including many who voted for the initial war resolution last October, who are interested in learning what the administration knew and when. Please co-sponsor HR-307 and HR-2625.
The responsibility of Congressional oversight sits squarely on your shoulders. I would like to know that my member of Congress is asking these important questions. Thank you for your continued effort on this issue.

Michelle Malkin writes that;
"...Green saboteurs aim to destroy our livelihoods and our military in the name of "peace." Our government must treat them as enemy combatants, not misguided imbeciles, and use any means necessary to stop them in their terrorist tracks. "

This old article discusses the final recount of the florida 2000 ballots.
It would appear that Gore took a narrow majority in FL as well as the nation at large. The article also points out that all of the elections in the sixties and seventies were similarly narrow margins>The main difference is that then the Appointed presidents won the poular vote as well. It seems to me that Mondale lost to Reagan by a narrow popular margin, although Reagan carried nearly every district in the country, it was only a small difference in the popular count.

About my Parents....
Margaret Cameron MacDougal married George William Wheeler, I believe the year was 1957, at Yale University, in New Haven where my father did his postgraduate work.He was born December 23, 1924 in Dedham, Mass., to John and Maria Chamberlin Wheeler. he died last March, (March 9, 2002) in Eugene Oregon. My sister moved him there from a hospital in Tennessee. When I last heard from him in 2000, He said that he was doing some Genealogical work. I don't know what has become of it, but I hope that My sister will be kind enough to share something.
Both of my parents had doctoral degrees, my dad in Physics and my mother in Anthropology. I often joke that I was raised by scientists, although joke is close to the truth; they were both busy with careers during my childhood. Dad worked at Brookhaven National Laboritories and Mom taught Anthropology and comparative religion at Stony Brook University. During the seventies my Dad worked for the Atomic Energy Commission,so, he was out of town most of the time, I saw him on the the weekends and during his vacation time.
Dad was also a dedicated sailor, and we spent many summers sailing Long Island Sound and on down the coast to Cape Cod and beyond as the season permitted. He also taught celestial navigation up until shortly before he died.
Mom was interested in history and antiques. She spent a great deal of time chronicling the family heirlooms, many of which were of Chinese origin. There was a full set of rose canton china from my fathers family and a carpet of considerable age, which should not have been in general use. The house I grew up in, on Long Island, had a museum like quality, being full of old silver and mahogany.
When they retired, my parents reduced their collection of stuff but I don't know how. I know that Mom was active with an historical society in Maryville Tennessee, so she may have seen fit to disburse some of the collection through them. however, it is more likely that my sister has the bulk of the estate in Oregon. She occasionally suggests that she will send me photos, my birth records and childhood medical history, but she never gets around to it.

Martyrs and Saints: a candle in the dark
Funny that Diana reappears in the news at the same time as Theresa's beatification. I remember how the news was crowded with the news of the fallen princess, eclipsing Theresa's death. Perhaps in the far future the two will merge into one mythic figure

Morning is often the best time to write for me, I'm usually not awake enough to get distracted.
I read something about dream journalswhich seems to be true. It was suggested that a notebbook be kept by the bed, for writing things down, even better, a tape recorder.
The reasoning was that people more often forget their dreams if they have to move around before they record them.
I find that I can write more if I start early in the day, and my thoughts are usually fresher, without the complications of style and word choice that clog my prose when I work late into the night .
Nevertheless, I still like the image of the artist working late in to the night.with a single lamp to see by.

The best thing that I can do is to keep on trying to write the thesis. It is the only thing keeping me from graduation. The more that I try to work, the better my writing becomes. All the time I was inschool, I felt priveleged.
Now I have to finish.
Now I am the one who really cares.
I can't say that writing gets any easier but over time, I hope that it will.
Now may not be the best time to focus on myself, But I have no other subject. I can only pretend that I really see the world around me. All of it filters through my bloodshot eyes.

Please register my strong support for the Campaigns to Impeach George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld.
I believe these men have overstepped their authorities, and have exceeded the powers granted their offices by the U.S. Constitution. Further, they have broken international treaties such as the Geneva Convention, and this increases the danger to our own troops in the field. More of our soldiers have died since the end of our invasion of Iraq than during the operation. It has been proven that the case made before Congress was false. There was no immanent threat. There was no connection to Al Queda. There were no weapons of mass distruction. No elected offical can be allowed to lie to Congress and to the American people with Impunity. No one should be able to put our young men and women in uniform in harm's way under false pretenses. They deserve better, and so do the rest of us.
For the first time in history, the Administration has interfered with the content and the dissemination of scientific information in order to further its extreme ideology. Public money is being used to fund religious organizations in a direct affront to Constitutional principles. Judges and Federal prosecutors are being bullied by the executive branch of government. American citizens are being held without the basic rights of representation and habeus corpus.
These men may have committed War Crimes by ordering the carpet bombing of areas of Afghanistan, in attacking Iraq without provocation, in detaining prisoners and suspects without respect for the Geneva Convention's specific guidelines for the treatment of Prisoners of War. The "Bush Doctrine" of "preemptive" war is illegal under the Nuremberg Charter, and is the same thinking that the Nazis employed sixty years ago.
Their assaults on civil liberties in the United States are unconstitutional, and they directly violate the guaranteed rights of American citizens. They have used lies about dangers which did not exist to justify breaking the social contract between this government and the American people.
The Bush Administration's decision to ignore Freedom of Information Act requests is clearly illegal under that Act. The Bush Administration's obstruction of investigations into the events of September the 11th, 2001 and of investigations into the Osama bin Laden family prior to September the 11th, may warrant Obstruction of Justice charges. Evidence has come to light that the Administration ignored warnings about a planned terrorist attack involving the use of planes as missiles. They failed in their most important duty- to protect the lives of American citizens.
Now, we have learned that during the days after September 11, members of the Bin Laden family were allowed to fly arround the country while our public airlines were grounded, and finally to leave without allowing the FBI to question them. This may have been an act of treason, and I strongly urge you to challenge the administration on this grievous breach of basic investigative procedure.
The exposure of a CIA operative in an apparent attempt to intimidate political oppenents must be the last straw. Partisan politics must not be allowed to endanger the American people by compromising national security. We, the People, will not rest until the source of this leak is exposed and prosecuted.
America has seen nothing like this in her history. The Nixon administration's crimes were minor in comparison to the behavior of these men. They have foresworn their oaths of office and should be removed.
Sincerely,
blogsisters

I woke up with a dream of riding the bus. The driver was mean to all the people who were riding on the bus. When each person got on, the driver would make some comment to insult him or her. The dream was inspired by the concert Masha and Peter attended last night. Skipper's Smoke House hosted The Mahotella Queens from South Africa. Masha mentioned their social history after she and Peter returned. In my dream, the bus driver threw my bongo drums off and wouldn't allow any black people on. The Mahotella Queens formed in 1964- about the same time as the civil rights movement happened over here. What struck me was the fact that the South Africans overthrew Apartheid and elected Nelson Mandela. So here we are with the Bush family and the bad Republicans. `I suppose that it's not so hopeless after all. The dream ended with radio playing a song with the words "I fondle myself," repeated as a chorus. I guess dreams don't have to make sense. I'm also sorry that I missed that show.

central casting
My lap top has a problem with the fan that vents the interior.
Briefly: we cast some metal thursday at the art center. W, M, G, and I.
I handled the flame for all the metal, and shot the whole batch. only a couple of ounces really. some gold for gloria, I didnt worry about it gold is so resilient. as long as it's not yours its easy to care less.
I care though. Thats why i handled the flame.

CNN.com - California recall may reverberate in 2004 contest - Oct. 8, 2003: "the recall could breathe new life into Republican hopes "U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, the House minority leader, called Davis's recall "a sad night for our state and a sad night for our country."
The message in California is a message to President Bush: Stop your reckless economic policies

I am so lazy that I never get around to writing anything worth while. The news looks like it's found a theme to harp on while the occupation of Iraq continues to crumble U.S. credibility around the world. I submitted an application for the holiday show offering three pieces to the Art Center. a painting and two silver anticlastic forms (none finished.) the painting have an idea for. Titled Bright Moon, it will be an abstraction based on a piece i did last year. The two silver pieces are ones that I have worked on over the past few months. Wound #1, (not a very cheerful theme for the holiday,) is all complete as far as forming the silver. all I need is the right coral bead and some black silk thread to make the suture. The other piece started as a bracelet but I will follow Denny's suggestion, "make it a pendant." and suspend it from a woven leather cord. I need to make caps for the end of the cord. silver cones should work. Then I will cap the ends of the hollow form.... Or maybe something else on an eighteen inch cord. as long as it has an "ARC," it will fit the title.
